About the Course
The future of VLSI (Very Large Scale Integration) design promises an experiential journey of innovation and transformation, fuelled by an array of emerging technologies and evolving design methodologies. As the demand for higher performance, lower power consumption, and increased functionality continues to soar, VLSI designers are embracing novel approaches such as advanced process technologies, 3D integration, and heterogeneous computing architectures to push the boundaries of chip design. Today, AI-driven design automation tools and methodologies are revolutionizing the way circuits are conceived, optimized, and verified, paving the way for unprecedented levels of design productivity and efficiency. With an ever-expanding array of applications spanning from IoT devices and edge computing to artificial intelligence and autonomous systems, the future of VLSI design is poised to be a dynamic and transformative journey, driving innovation and shaping the technological landscape of future.
M. Tech in VLSI Design program is curated to provide students with a balanced blend of theory and practice. The curriculum covers a wide range of topics including digital design, analog and mixed-signal design, system-on-chip (SoC) design, and other advance VLSI technologies.
The intellectual capital of the department are esteemed experts with a rich blend of experience in academia and industry. Their diverse backgrounds and deep expertise bring invaluable insights to the classroom, enhancing the learning experience of our students. With a wealth of knowledge and practical experience to draw upon, our faculty members are committed to nurturing the next generation of professionals in their respective fields, preparing students for success in both academic pursuits and real-world applications.
The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering offers master’s degree in VLSI Design from session 2008-09. The duration of M.Tech program is of two years divided into four semesters with first and second semesters being entirely coursework-oriented whereas third and fourth semesters involve seminars and dissertation work.
Most of the students of Electronics & Engineering are exposed to Integrated Circuits at a very basic level, involving SSI circuits like logic gates or MSI circuit like multiplexer, parity encoder etc. But there is a much bigger world out there involving miniaturization at levels so great, that a micrometre and a microsecond are literally considered huge. This is the world of VLSI (Very Large-Scale Integration). The aim of the course is to try to introduce the possibilities and the works involved in this field.
VLSI design has been a subject of interest in recent years as evident from the surge of related activities in the Engineering and Research Community. At NIET, we have state-of-the-art laboratories to impart the best training to postgraduate students in VLSI technology. The students are encouraged to take part in research activities sponsored by various government organizations carried out at NIET.
